A very handy Christmas present!

For Christmas i got a thumb printing book as a joke present, but who knew it would form the basis of my final project! I wanted to be experimental with my work, and even though thumb prints have been done before i thought i could add my own twist to them. These are some of my initial prints.

Jillian Phillips...

I came across designer Jillian Phillips on the print and pattern blog, but had seen her designs in Paperchase before. I really like her work and it has a quirky style, mainly for the younger generations but i think all ages would admire her style. This is the concept that i would like to achieve through my work. Also because many of her designs have been picked up by Paperchase, you can see them on a variety of products. Similar to the end of the last project i would like to show my designs within a branding concept and i would like to actually make some of these products too.

Violent Veg..

I thought the best way to get back into practical mode would be looking at some current cards check that my theme is still on trend. Violent Veg uses a very similar theme to mine in that it uses real food objects but puts them into little scenes. Originally i was thinking about using fruit and veg as my initial images, but now i think that my work would be too similar i wouldn't stand out as much. I think that mine will be different as i will be using Illustrator to add my features.

Dissertation

Dissertation has been ongoing since the summer but this is when it all seems to be pretty hectic. I have focused mine on Colour and how it has been used in art. This was from seeing the Colour Chart Exhibition, Tate Liverpool. This showed how artists tried to use colour to dehumanize their artwork, this contrasted with the expressionists who used colour as a way to show emotion.
I feel that i am quite on top of my Dissertation as i had finished a first draft by Christmas. It is now a case of re-drafting and checking through. The deadline is February time so i wont be doing as much studio work in this time. My aim is to do at least one day a week where i focus on my practical work.

Final Major Project...eek!!

So the time has come and it is the start of my last ever project at uni. I cant believe how quickly the time has gone and that i am at this point already. I have decided to carry on with the same idea as my last project of adding arms, legs and faces to objects so that they have their own personality. I am moving away from the cakes and sweets because i think i completed it and i think i would get stuck with the imagery. So i am using beans and nuts as my starting image and then i will be adding the features on top of these. Alongside this i will also be using different ways of drawing but in an experimental way.
So watch this space and see how my work develops ......
