Scenes for Sweets

To help give my sweets more of a character, i would like them to be set in a scene. This could also be used for my card ideas, so there is more detail on them. These are some of my examples of scene that i could put my sweets in. I have drawn them on Illustrator and then added my sweets into them. If i do take these ideas further i will have to think about backgrounds as at the moment they are all just white. I have tried to think of scenes which fit with sweets like Hansel and Gretel's house and a bubblegum dispenser. I think that these fit with my idea of making mini collages which have several aspects to them. I think that my real sweets are the best but with the drawings it adds another dimension to it.

Drawing Sweets

These are some of the sweets that i have drawn by hand. I have left some black and white and others i have added a slight bit of colour using watercolours. I have stuck to using realistic colours so that it fits with the photos of the sweets. By doing this i will have more imagery to work with and i can use a mixture of photography, drawing and computer work so that it is more of a collage.

Continuation of sweets

I tried to use the sweets in different ways yet still add their features on. I decided to do this by using the an actual photo and then adding my faces over the top. I am really pleased with these and i think i might work with these types of images further.

My favourite is the two mini eggs but i am happy with them all. I have just done them quickly so if i take these further i will make sure they have a proper background and make sure all illustrator lines match up to the image.

Sweets

I have now expanded my work further by looking at food items and 'Pic n mix' sweets. I felt there was something retro about them and there was a wide variety of sweets available. These sweets were drawn with the wacom and then i added their features and coloured them in. I tried to use the colours that they are so they looked more realistic. Im not sure as yet how i feel about them, i need to play around with composition as to how they might work on a page.

Wacom

WACOM, not just a fun name, but a pretty useful tool! I went back to my original hand-drawn images but felt they were simplified too much. Using the wacom i was able to have a hand drawn quality to my images. I found it very difficult to use at first (as you can see from this first image), and i am still spending time experimenting with it.

Stories

I think that some of my images need an added element to them, either in the form of text or making them into a little story.
I have tried to make my images more complex and add more elements to them. For this 'story' there are two images and the use of text. I want my designs to be very quirky so that they stand out, but also because i think there is a market for them.

This is an image of a basic story board of two of my images. I have used a picture of an object and then added their features. I also like this idea of adding the features onto real images. This is something that i will consider to do more of.

Adding colour

Colour is going to be a key issue to my work and i am going to have to find ways of how to apply the colour to my designs. I could leave my designs in monochrome but i think that they will need more detail in the form of colour.

These images have colour on the actual image and highlights different sections. I prefer the second image as the first on has lost some of the details.

This image has colour as a background, which emphasises my design. These are not true colours which i will use, but they were just used as an experiment of where to use colour. I think i prefer colour in the background so that my images stands out.
