New house, new room

We have just moved into a new house and seeing as we are able to paint our own rooms i did one of my designs on my wall. I think it looks really good and shows that my designs work on a big scale. I was going to add colour to it but think that would have been too much.

Final Pieces

These are how some of my final pieces look like. They were A3 but i think they could have been bigger still. I have mixed several techniques. I have used some of my marbling and splattered paint and scanned them in. then by using Photoshop i have combined it to my drawn images. However some of my designs have been worked on by painting over my original drawings.

After finishing these designs, i felt that they needed something a little bit more added to them so i have added some stitching to them.

I am really pleased with how it has all turned out, but now i would like to make them into something, so i am going to make them into cards and gift wrap. If i use them as gift wrap then it wouldn't be viable for me to stitch each one, so i would scan them in.

Drawing with Movement

As i said before, i wanted to draw with movement. I tried several techniques and ways to show this. This first was splattering emulsion paint, this gave an interesting texture and was very fun to do! The other image is blowing ink, it looks kind of like a spider, and if it is suitable i would like to use it further. Other things that i tried were marbling and dripping different types of paint.

Light graffiti

As i was looking for new ways to show movement through photography, i came across the idea of light graffiti. Again it is using a long shutter speed on the camera but involves running around like sillys with a torch! So taking a friend with me, armed with a tripod and several torches we had our own attempts at doing some light graffiti.

The first two pictures were taken at a park in Bristol. We decided to use bicycle lights as they were a lot brighter than any other torches. Also it comes out a lot more blue and it looks good with the red lights. I especially like the second picture as it looks like a butterfly. It was taken on a see-saw which also went round and round.

The third picture was taken in a friends garden as it was beginning to get dark so it has given a really unusual light which is very blue.

The last two pictures were taken down at Seaton beach (Devon). The first picture, taken at the harbour, we tried to show how you can outline and exaggerate a picture by drawing around an object. I think that it is quite interesting and if i was drawing objects then i would like to do more of these. This last image is of me and my friend skipping along the seafront. We were swinging our arms as we skipped which makes it look like we are bouncing.

Overall i am really pleased with these sets of images, and there are plenty more of them! Its a quick and easy way to fill up the sketchbook!!

Movements of light

These pictures were taken by using the night mode on my digital camera, because of the long shutter speed the lines create new shapes. The first picture is by the side of a busy road and the blue lights were from a casino. I like how the lines all kind of follow the same trail with a few exceptions.

This second picture was taken at a club with all the different strobe lights. However for this one i moved the camera move so it has created these more curved shapes. I think that this would be really good to draw from, especially the three lines which are joined together.

Final project- Movement

Movement is the theme for my final project. I want to work in an abstract way and focus mainly on the idea of lines and movement. These are some of my initial photos which i took showing both movement and line. Next i will simplify these images by drawing them just using line. I will stick to using black at first and as i have worked out how they look together i will think about incorporating some colour with it. I would also like to work with the idea of drawing with movement.

Photography

Part of the course is to do an elective, this can either be done one a week over 10 weeks or is condensed into 4 days. I chose to do Black and White photography over the 4days of my February half term. I have always loved photography, i like to experiment with different types and ways to develop photos. I think there is something so interesting about it. I have done a bit of black and white photography at school, but i learnt more in 4days then i ever have done.

These are some of the final photos which i took and i was really happy with them. It took a long time to get the right exposure and contrast within the image but as a whole i was very happy with this project. This also means that i have the opportunity to use the resources in further projects.
